Inverter Failure Prevention Avoids Loss of 49 MWh with Predictive Analysis

With intelligent alerts from Delfos, a critical failure was avoided and 49 MWh were no longer lost in a solar plant, thanks to the anticipation of failures due to insulation degradation in an inverter.

Background

During continuous monitoring of a Distributed Generation solar plant, the Delfos Performance Engineering team identified intermittent shutdowns in one of the inverters (Huawei model SUN2000-215KTL-H3). Although the other inverters behaved normally, INV13 began to shut down at different times, even with solar irradiance above the minimum required - a behavior identified and evidenced by Delfos.

This abnormal pattern raised suspicions of a possible imminent failure. If it wasn't resolved in time, it could lead to prolonged equipment downtime, making diagnosis difficult and generating significant energy losses.

Implemented Solution

Using the Delfos platform, the team analyzed alarms and historical series of active power. Using the Prediction and Alerts modules, it was possible to detect a degradation trend in the insulation of the INV13 inverter.

Delfos correlated the intermittent shutdowns with isolation alerts, issuing an early warning to the technical team. Based on this information, a technical report was produced, and the O&M team was activated preventively.
