Software Upgrade in Park Generates Up to 10% Increase in AEP

After identifying performance deviations in 11 wind turbines, Delfos worked with the partner to recommend adjustments to the Pitch system, resulting in significant gains of up to 10% in AEP (Annual Energy Production) and full recovery of the machines' operational health.

Context:

The wind farm presented a worrying scenario: 11 of the 26 turbines were operating with pitch health indicators below 50% and with a deviation in the CPC Index (Contractual Power Curve) of less than 90%, compromising energy efficiency and generating accumulated losses of more than 25,600 MWh in a typical year:

The anomalous behavior was identified through Delfos' Asset Performance Management module, using high-frequency SCADA data (10-minutes), allowing a detailed view of the failures in the Pitch system.

Implemented Solution

Delfos conducted a detailed analysis of the historical data and flagged the critical wind turbines during the Performance Engineering meeting with the client company. After joint validation, a software update to the pitch system was recommended, carried out in partnership between the client and the manufacturer Acciona.

Achieved Results

- 8 turbines adjusted so far, following recommendations from Delfos.
- Average gain of up to 10% in AEP for the turbines already adjusted.
- Recovery of Pitch health indicators by up to 100%, returning to optimal behavior.
- Total estimated energy recovered in the adjusted machines: +18,240 MWh in a typical year:

Conclusion

Delfos' actions not only identified a hidden problem, but enabled efficient corrective action, avoiding significant energy losses and optimizing the asset's performance. The combination of the platform's expertise and the cooperation of the partner's team resulted in a more efficient, predictable operation in line with the contractual curve.
